Traditional Birth Attendants in Afram Plains to Use Aquasafe

Following a donation of 10 Aquasafe units by TNT Courier Services Ghana to the Afram Plains Development Organisation, the District Assembly decided to order 200 additional units.

In the autumn of 2006, STWA made the first visits to the Afram Plains region and sold  250 Aquasafe units for use in schools. Following this success, TNT Courier Services Ghana decided to donate 10 units to the Afram Plains Development Organisation as part of its CSR activities. These 10 units were donated to 10 Traditional Birth Attendants. By supplying the TBA's with access to safe water through use of the Aquasafe unit, the objective is to reduce the high infant mortality rate in the region.

Following close on the heels of this, the Afram Plains District Assembly decided to order a further 200 Aquasafe units for use in school health centres and traditional birth homes.

STWA will engage in dialogue with Ministry of Women's and Children's Affairs to pursue the possibilities of an even widerspread dessemination of the Aquasafe units to schools and traditional birth homes throughout selected parts of Ghana.
